Can shopping honestly be good for you? Well, I know that when I get home from a long day of shopping, I am pooped. My feet hurt, my legs hurt and my back hurts as well. It always made me think that even though I am causing a lot of “damage” there has to be a part of this that is good for me. So, this week when I came upon some information to back up my thoughts, I just had to share them with you.
~ The average woman covers 2.96 miles on a shopping trip
~ They notch up 154 miles a year
~ The average woman burns around 385 calories - the equivalent of a piece of carrot cake or two large glasses of wine - trudging around stores each week.
~ Women take an average 7,305 steps each time they head out on a spree, almost three quarters the 10,000 daily number recommended by the NHS
BREAKDOWN OF RESULTS:
| Shopping trips per year x hours walked each time | Total hours spent shopping each year | |
|---|---|---|
| Clothes shopping | 24 x 1 hour, 59 minutes | 47 hours, 31 minutes |
| Food shopping | 60 x 1 hour, 22 minutes | 82 hours, 12 minutes |
| Local shopping | 48 x 38 minutes | 30 hours, 14 minutes |
| TOTAL | 159 hours, 57 minutes |
So using a rate of five calories per minute, the average woman will burn 47,985 calories each month.
(Calorie burn rate is based on an average body weight of 175 pounds, walking at an average speed of 3mph)

I see so many Women who either work from home, are stay at home Mothers or just don’t think they have a reason to dress up or take care of themselves. Well, today I heard a great quote: ”Get cute for you.” Ladies, you are worth it. You deserve to take a little time and primp yourself for the day. You don’t need a place to go or meeting to get to. However, once you take the first step, you will want to find a place to go. Many of you may be saying, but where do I start? What are the must haves for giving my wardrobe that little boost. Well, here are 4 things that are a must in every wardrobe;
1. Black leggings or jean legging
2. Black boot or shoe boot

lazer style)
4. A scarf
This list goes for women of all ages. Granted you are going to want a different boot at age 50 than you would at 20. Find the one that works for you and is age appropriate. You can do it ladies

As you have all seen, bib necklaces are a huge trend right now. They range from super simple to much more extravagant. I love this trend because it can take your look to a whole new level. Take a staple tee and jeans, throw on some sexy heels and a bib necklace with crystals and beads and you are no longer casual. A feminine touch that will turn heads. My favorites are the ones that throw in a little touch of satin. Tie it in the back with a satin ribbon, weave it throughout the necklace or just have it as extra detail. If this is a bridge that you haven’t crossed, I highly recommend it. I had a hard time at first with the weight on my neck, but quickly found many that are lighter and easy to wear. So start looking for that perfect piece ladies.

Now is the time of year where it gets harder to open your closet every morning and put on the same thing you feel like you have worn a million times. We are in-between stages where it is hard to buy for winter (unless you get an amazing deal) but it is too cold to buy for spring. So how do you get out of the wardrobe rut during this in-between time? Easy, by adding accessories! You can get away with wearing the same staple pieces as long as you switch up the accessories for a new, refreshing take on the outfit. We love how a bold necklace takes all the attention, or how a simple scarf can change the entire outfit. When it comes to choosing accessories, look for pieces that you can incorporate with different outfits in your wardrobe. Bold accessories are always a great add on to any look. We also love the look of layering your accessories. Start with a simple necklace, add a longer necklace and don’t be afraid to mix colors to get the desired look you crave. You don’t have to spend a fortune on great accessories. Right now is the perfect time to add accessories to make any style look new again. Check out the new accessories added to jbandme.com.

One of the most commonly asked questions we get is, “How do you wear a scarf?’ Our answer is always the same, “There is no wrong way to wear a scarf.” However that may not help some of you. So, I thought that I would give a quick scarf lesson. There are so many different styles of scarves out there that you need to find the one that works for. Some may be too thick or thin or even be made out of materials that don’t agree with y your skin. So once you find the right one, take it home and play around with it.
If it is on the thin side and a little longer, try doing a simple lap around the neck and letting the ends hang from there. This will give you long lines and make you appear taller. Another style out there is “square” scarf and you can start by folding this one in half on diagonal. You are now left with a triangle. Take the triangle in front and have it pointing down. Now continue to wrap the ends around the back and tie together in the front. Adjust accordingly to get the look that you want. You may need to tuck some pieces in or pull others out. The last scarf I am going to talk about is my favorite style. It is wide and longer scarf that has a lot of material but is still lightweight, for example a Love Quote. For this one I would take the scarf and fold it in half the long way. Put it around your neck so on one side you have a loop and the other side you have two ends. Take one end and put it through the loop. On the next step you would twist the loop one time and put the other end through. Once again you may have to adjust a bit to get it just how you want it.
This picture is not any of the ties I described but another way to wear a Love Quote. (photo from coolspotters.com)

So it is now 2010, a new decade and you want to make it the best year ever. You have been thinking about how you are going to change things, how this year is going to be better than ever! Many resolutions come to mind when you think about the new year. In fact a lot of times it is the same new year resolutions each year. Every one talks about losing weight or saving more money. There are all these thoughts about how change is going to make this year better than the past. Don’t get me wrong, these are great things, but how about we make a resolution to be happy. Whatever that takes, big or small the changes that you make this year need to benefit you for the better. Here is a simple list of the little things we can do make ourselves happier in 2010.
These are just some simple tips to make your New Year a happier one! This year is going to be the best ever! Here is a picture of my happy place, wishing I was there right now instead of in the snow storm we have right now.

Many Women want change with a New Year but are too scared to do something about it. So, my suggestion is to start with something simple. Change up your look a little bit. I am not saying go and switch you whole style. However, I am saying try something different. Whether that is to wear your make up a way you have never before. Change the color of your gloss, eye shadow or even eye liner. Not everyone will notice this, but it may be the thing that would give you a little boost. If that isn’t enough, try a change with your hair. This could mean change up the color, give yourself a subtle bang or maybe chop it all off. If this is something you have been swinging back and forth on, there is no better time to take that leap. Go for it! I promise you won’t regret it. Not only will you be proud of yourself for finally following through with it, but it will give you a whole new look and confidence that you didn’t know you could have. Look at Reese Whiterspoon for example, she has amazing hair and gave herself a whole new look just by adding some bangs. Wear them straight or swept to the side. She has even kept them long enough to pull back if needed. You can do it ladies! Make a change this year that you have wanted to for quite some time. I am not a risk taker myself, so I will be starting small and getting bigger. Let me know what change you made. We would love to hear about it.

The time has come for the final hurrah of the year. To make sure you have everything you need to ring in the New Year, we have put together a little list of the “New Years Eve Must Haves”.
1. Sparkle - It’s a must to wear something or carry something that has at least a little bit of shimmer to it. A top, a shoe or even a simple clutch.
2. Statement Shoes - You know, that pair of shoes that is in your closet that you grab once a week but end up putting them back because you think they may be too much. Yes, those are the ones I am talking about. Tonight is the perfect night to break those babies in.
3. Clutch - This is not the night to carry that bulky handbag. Go for something smaller that can hold the evenings necessities. If you have the option, go for the one with a chain strap to add the perfect detail.
4. Gloss - No this is not your Sparkle for the night. You want something that will brighten up your look, give you that wide awake look. It is going to be a late one you know!
5. Mints - You knew it was coming, it comes every night. Midnight that is, but in addition to that, tonight you get a kiss from that special someone. So pop a mint with a couple minutes to go and you will have one less worry!

A fun way to make a fashion statement this winter – textured tights! Like most things stylish this fall/winter, tights are more glamorous than ever before. This season we are seeing more dresses than usual, making the tight the perfect pairing. I found the most beautiful pair of tights on the free people website. They are black lace and feature rhinestones on the back of the leg. What a great outfit for a Christmas party or a New Year’s event – lace tights, stilettos and the perfect black dress! Another exciting development in leg wear is the return of leg warmers!! Made popular in the 1980s, this concept falls somewhere in between a sock and a tight. Leg warmers of ’09 are worn with cute skirts and dresses (layered over tights if the temperature calls for extra layers). These warmers are available in chunky knits for a casual vibe or sleek cottons for a more sophisticated style. Try a pair! Happy Shopping Ladies!
