Since I got engaged, I have worn few rings but the lovely diamond my sweet fiance gave to me.  However, my appreciation for decorative rings has not lessened by any means.  Currently, large crystals have caught my eye as the ring du jour, ranging in colors of burnt gold to emerald green.  Crystals reflect light much like diamonds making them sparkly and fabulous.  Mixed metal rings inter-twined to create a cluster of metals, a la Katie Holmes, are also popular right now.  It is perfectly acceptable to wear three or four rings at a time.  Mixed metals and colors but be careful and be sure that the styles blend well together.  Jewelry designer, Dort Kasbleek, features a fabulous collection of hand made jewelry, including rings at JB and me.  She recently began using the crystals that I mentioned before and features styles in various colors.  Check them out!

In celebration of Earth Day tomorrow I wanted to talk about eco-friendly fashions and what makes these styles “eco-friendly”

We all want to do our part to help the future of our environment and it is nice to know that designers are feeling the same way and offering more eco-friendly products. There are magazines and books devoted to helping us live a greener life too. Our favorite publication is Boho Magazine. This magazine is all about celebrating being a women and how to better improve our lives and the lives around us. It features numerous eco-chic brands. One of the brands in the magazine is Stewart Brown. We love Stewart Brown for eco-friendly clothing. The cotton is so comfortable and the quality of the material is amazing. Now let me go into what makes a product “Green”  The idea behind organic clothing is to minimize the use of chemicals in the cultivation of fibers and to limit the contact of processed materials with the body. The basic difference between organic fabrics and non-organic fabrics is found in the nature of the fiber. Conventional fibers are subject to the synthetic chemicals used by farmers to deter pests and promote crop growth. Organic fibers are cultivated naturally and feature low-impact, plant based dying processes.* Organic fabrics are being used not only in many clothing lines, but in certain brands of linens and blankets as well.

I love reading Self Magazine, I feel so energized and ready to try new exercises and healthy foods after I read the issue. That feeling does not always last, but at least I tried, right?! I was reading the May issue of Self today and it got me really excited for summer fashions. It could be that we have finally reached 70 degrees in Michigan and the sun is shining. Sometimes fashion can cause a problem. We love wearing different cuts in our tops and lower rise jeans, but these styles can make us uncomfortable throughout the day if we are falling out of them or constantly tugging on them. Lucky for us, there are little problem solvers that can make our fashionable outfits flawless and effortless.

Some may think that the maxi-length dress, a dress that is to be worn floor-length, is only for the long-legged. This is not the case. It began last year, as a throw back to the 1960, but the maxi of Summer 2009 is limitless in its possibilities. Some of you may be a little hesitant to join this trend because of the slouchy laid back look, but let us explain the benefits of this amazing trend. However, Katie tends to wear her boyfriend style a little too casual and baggy. You do not have to look sloppy to capture this style. Here is some advice when it comes to choosing the boyfriend jean.

To begin, lets explain what makes a jean “Boyfriend”. The design of these jeans is loose and casual. It looks best when doubled rolled at the bottom. In fact if you do not roll these jeans up, you give off a sloppy appeal and could give the wrong impression. Looking at the denim from behind, the pockets are bigger and set lower than regular fits. This gives you the slouchy, comfortable look. You do not want to go to baggy in the butt and lose all shape. It is best to look for denim that has a straight leg for rolling up.  You can opt for distressed look, which is hot this season, or more clean lines depending on your personal preference.

Mixing Prints

After a winter filled with varying shades of charcoal and gray, the promise of Spring has sparked ingenuity in fashion. One clever emergence is the mixing of prints. Considered an infallible risk by most, the trend streams from the concept of “individual eclecticism”; debuted by top labels in Fall of 2008. Spring designers have carried on the concept and continued with a less-than-streamlined approach to their collections. Spring fashion intermixes elements of feminism, exoticism and funk, creating a unique and eclectic vibe. To successfully portray the style of mixed prints, one must pay close attention to the elements (although the result must appear effortless). Colors do not have to match, but they must correlate. This is the most important factor when attempting the trend. Mixing opposite prints such as floral and stripes works better than mixing two differing versions of a single pattern. Understatement is key and the style looks best when at least one of the patterns is subtle. The underlying beauty of this trend is that it inspires creativity in the individual. (*This look is best used with tops and accessories. Steer clear of patterned pants unless your name is Kate Moss or the pattern is exceptionally restrained).

The first time you break away from the boots can be challenging for your feet. I know the first day that I wear any kind of shoes barefoot, I am bound to get sore feet.
