Happy St. Patty’s Day! Today is going to be a great day filled with lots of luck.

Sinceclover-leaf-3100 we were little, we have always celebrated this day by wearing green and if you did not wear your green you would be pinched. There is also a parade on this day. For those over 21, it is a day to celebrate in pubs and bars. So why do we celebrate this day. Not too many people even know why we celebrate March 17 as St. Patrick’s Day, not knowing that it really has nothing to do with leprechauns and lucky pots of gold. The real celebration is in honor of a man name Patrick who was a missionary and successfully converted over 120,000 people to Christianity. Never giving up, this missionary created hundreds of churches in Europe to help spread his religious beliefs. The three leaf clover was a symbol of his teachings.

So why is St. Patrick’s Day so recognized in the US? Well it all began when there was a potato famine in Ireland and a lot of Irish moved to America settling in New York and Boston. Not really being accepted by the Americans, the Irish still kept their beliefs. They had a parade to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and their religion, which ended up being huge including over 15,000 people and a major turning point in history. Since that day, the parade has continued to be a huge success each year and highly recognized.

Today, we celebrate by wearing green and feeling the luck of the Irish.

This day is celebrated by people of all backgrounds in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Although North America is home to the largest productions, St. Patrick’s Day has been celebrated in other locations far from Ireland, including Japan, Singapore, and Russia.

So now you have some history of this day and can really appreciate the meaning of St. Patrick’s Day! Now go out and celebrate and don’t forget your green!
